# How Scorecard Versions Affect Evaluations

## Definition

Publishing a scorecard freezes its criteria, weights, and standards as a numbered version. Categories use an active published version for new evaluations; a draft does not replace that version.

## Context

Open [QA Settings · Scorecards](https://wfm.zenops.cx/settings/service/qa-analysis/scorecards), choose a scorecard, and select **Version history** to inspect drafts and published versions. The category's **QA Analysis** tab in [Categories](https://wfm.zenops.cx/service/categories) shows which published version is active for that category.

## Attributes

- **Draft changes:** Editing a draft does not rewrite a published version or alter evaluations already made with it. The editor saves draft changes and shows the save state; wait for a successful save before publishing.
- **Publication:** **Publish and activate** creates a new immutable version and makes it active for the categories selected in the publish dialog. A published scorecard with no category assignment remains inactive for category evaluations.
- **New evaluations:** They use the active published version assigned to their category. A batch freezes the scorecard version it was started with, so later scorecard changes do not silently change that batch's standard.
- **Past evaluations:** Their results should be read against the version recorded with the run. A later scorecard edit or publication does not rescore completed work automatically.
- **Restoration:** **Restore as draft** copies an earlier published version into an editable draft. The earlier snapshot and current published version remain in history; the restored content affects new work only after it is published again.

See [How To Restore An Earlier Scorecard Version](/help/articles/qa-how-to-restore-an-earlier-scorecard-version/) for the restoration steps.
