# How To Create Shift Types

## Objective

Create a shift type with the name, display, and time details planners need when adding shifts to schedules.

## Environment

- You have permission to manage **Scheduling Settings**.
- You know the shift patterns your organization uses and the names and time details that should appear in planning.

## Resolution

1. Open **Scheduling Settings** → **Shift Types**. Review existing types before adding one with the same purpose.
2. Select **Add Shift Type**. Enter the shift name, display, and time details requested by your organization, then save it.
3. Confirm that the new type appears in the **Shift Types** list.

To define schedule activities, see [How To Create Activity Types](/help/articles/create-activity-types/).

## Notes on this article

### Note: A type is not a scheduled shift

After step 3 in resolution. Creating a shift type makes it available to planners; it does not place a shift on an agent’s schedule.
