# How To Configure Request Rules

## Objective

Validate agent requests against your organization’s notice requirements and choose how rule violations are handled.

## Environment

- You have permission to manage **Scheduling Settings**.
- You know which request types and time-off types each rule should cover, and the notice period required.

## Resolution

1. Open **Scheduling Settings** → **Request Rules**. Review the existing rules, including their scope, priority, and status.
2. Select **Create new rule** or edit an existing rule. Enter a clear **Rule Name**, add an optional **Description**, choose a **Rule Type**, and set its **Priority**.
3. Under **Applies to Request Types** and **Applies to Time Off Type**, choose the requests this rule should validate.
4. In **Rule Configuration**, enter the values required by the selected rule type. For **Minimum Advance Notice**, set the **Number of Days**.
5. Choose whether to **Block submission if this rule is violated** and whether to **Allow manual approval for requests that violate this rule**.
6. Save the rule, then confirm the list shows its intended scope, priority, and status.

## Notes on this article

### Note: Priority order matters

After step 2 in resolution. Higher priority rules are checked first. When rules overlap, confirm the order matches the validation you intend.
